Image of Doug Bates. On April 29th, Doug Bates, PSC Foundation Governor and Past President, facilitated a workshop on The Power of Active Listening for seven College departments and the PSC Foundation. Representatives praised the engaging and thought-provoking session.

During the workshop, Bates emphasized the importance of active listening as a powerful tool for building meaningful relationships, fostering trust, and strengthening communication both personally and professionally. Participants were encouraged to reflect on how intentional listening can help create stronger teams, improve collaboration, and better support the College’s mission and students.

The Foundation expressed special gratitude for Bates’ dedication and generosity in leading the workshop—particularly as he volunteered his time to present the session on his birthday. An alumnus, former student-athlete, and longtime volunteer leader, he continues to invest in the success of PSC through both his leadership and mentorship.

The session served as a meaningful reminder that listening is more than a communication skill—it is an act of connection, empathy, and service that can positively impact colleagues, students, and the broader community.
