Pensacola State College donors who reach the President’s Circle level of giving were treated to an assortment of hors d’oeuvres and desserts from cultures around the world during the annual Garde Manger, held July 19 in the Delaino Student Center on the Pensacola campus.
Garde Manger is an annual celebration where the College thanks its invaluable supporters that help fund scholarships, promote faculty and professional development, expand college and academic programs, and contribute towards development of infrastructure. Invitees enjoy delicious appetizers prepared by Culinary students, participate in a raffle, and an opportunity to socialize and mingle.
“There’s a lot of delicious food here. Our students were creative and did a phenomenal job, and I’m excited to share this with guests,” said Culinary and Hospitality Management Instructor Joni Hoang.
At this event, students from the Pensacola State College Molly McGuire School of Culinary Arts earn a chance to showcase their skills and talent through the creation and display of a themed menu of their choice. This year, dishes ranging from Jamaican jerk chicken wings to Naples, Italy’s Caprese Crostini, an All-American picnic loaded potato salad, Disney’s “Princess and the Frog” New Orleans-influenced gumbo and Cajun coleslaw, and even Street Racing foods such as shrimp ceviche could be found across the huge spread.
One attendee, PSC Director of Community and Special Initiatives Dr. Rameca Leary, shared how impressed she was with the cuisine. “One thing that I thought stood out was the gumbo, it brought me all the way back to my time in New Orleans!”
