The Vic and Vermell Wozniak Dreamland Endowed Scholarship, befitting of its name, has supported the dreams of Pensacola State College students with nearly $8,000 in scholarship awards. This summer, thanks to a generous donation, the endowment has grown to more than $314,000.
Deserving students will continue to benefit from the Wozniaks’ selfless gifts for generations to come as they endowed their scholarship. With Pensacola State College’s affordable cost of attendance, this scholarship truly goes a long way for students and their families.
Established in 1999, this endowment honors the late Pensacolian co-owners and operators of Dreamland Skating Rink North (https://myskatecenter.com/welcome-to-dreamland) on Olive Street. Vermell, who passed in 1990, was a lifelong resident of Pensacola and member of the Roller Skating Association (https://www.rollerskating.com/pages/home/1) for forty years. Her husband Victor or “Vic,” passed away two years later in 1992.
Their endowment, active for roughly 24 years, supports students who demonstrate a financial need, maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or above, and are enrolled in an associate degree program.
Recent recipient of this endowed scholarship, Madellyn Schmeiser (pictured above), shared how the Wozniaks’ scholarship will enable her to follow her own dreams:
“I’m currently an aspiring medical professional who works full-time as a medical technician. I plan to further my education and reach my dreams of becoming a Physician’s Assistant or Certified Nurse Anesthetist with the help of this opportunity.”
Madellyn continued, “I’ve always had the goal to go to college and educate myself so that I can make a difference in the lives of others. I knew I wanted to be in the medical field, but it wasn’t until my brother was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia that I knew what my calling would be. The experience of watching my brother’s daily fight created my drive to specialize in pediatric oncology or emergency medicine.”
Thanks to the Vic and Vermell Wozniak Dreamland Endowed Scholarship, students like Madellyn can achieve their dreams and pursue their passions.
