In 2000, Pensacola State College’s Black History Committee established the African American Memorial Endowment Scholarship in memory of PSC’s deceased African American employees. The scholarship is awarded each February at the African American Memorial Endowment Scholarship and the Dr. Garrett T. Wiggins “Live Your Dream” Scholarship Banquet. Scholarships are presented to outstanding minority students. This year’s banquet completes a series of celebrations at Pensacola State during Black History Month. Events include featured speakers, a “Reader’s Ensemble” hosted by the African American Heritage Society and photojournalist Art Shay’s photography exhibit, Integration and Civil Rights, which will be on display at Pensacola State’s Anna Lamar Switzer Center Gallery through March 13. Since its inception, over $21,500.00 in scholarships has been awarded from the African American Memorial Endowed Scholarship.
