Pensacola State College received $30,000 in scholarship and program funds from Monsanto-Solutia Retirees Inc. on Wednesday, July 24.
The donation was presented to Pensacola State President Ed Meadows during an 11 a.m. press conference in the College’s Board of Trustees meeting room in Building 7, on the Pensacola campus.
Pensacola State President Ed Meadows was touched by the generosity of the Monsanto-Solutia retirees.
“The Pensacola State family appreciates these retirees remembering the College and its students,” Meadows said. “Many of our students work full-time jobs, have families and sometimes even care for their parents – any help with their tuition, fees, books is always appreciated. Thank you for this funding this endowment.”
“The Chemstrand, Monsanto and Solutia companies grew here and contributed in many ways to our community. That growth was done hand-in-hand with Pensacola Junior College/Pensacola State College. Our organization wants to leave a legacy of support to the students at PSC, in recognition of our long relationship with the College,” stated Gerald McArthur, chairman, Association Monsanto-Solutia Retirees, Inc.
The Monsanto-Solutia Retirees Endowed Scholarships will be awarded to:
- Students with a Monsanto, Solutia or Ascend connection
- Ascend employees enrolled in programs to enhance job skills
- Students enrolled in a health care program, or
- Chemical engineering students.
The scholarship also is available to Pensacola State full- or part-time students with a 2.5 or higher grade point average. Recipients also must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien. Scholarship funds can be used for tuition, fees, books, and other supplies.
