College awarded $24,755 from Florida Blue, the Helios Foundation, Bank of America
Christmas arrived a little early for 13 Pensacola State College students after they recently were awarded scholarships.
The awards were a portion of $24,755 in scholarship funds that Pensacola State received from Florida Blue, the Helios Education Foundation and Bank of America’s Dream Maker program. Pensacola State’s award was part of more than $893,000 in scholarship funds the three entities contributed to the 28 institutions that make up the Florida College System.
A new simulator has joined the ranks at the Mary Ekdahl Smart Center for Patient Simulation at Pensacola State College’s Warrington campus.
Victoria, a maternal and neonatal birthing simulator, is the center’s 15th device and features full body supple skin and seamless joints.
“Victoria is much more realistic. The mechanics of childbirth are more physiologically correct and because she has an upgraded motor, the entire delivery process is more natural,” said Marta E. Suarez-O’Connor, the education director for patient simulation training.
Local philanthropists David and Cathy Hammond recently donated $100,000 to the Visual Arts Department at Pensacola State College.
Their contribution kicks off a $1 million effort to establish a permanent fund providing additional visual arts scholarships, program support and faculty enhancement. This is part of the college’s $3 million LIMITLESS Campaign for Visual Arts, a fundraising effort that includes support for construction of the Charles W. Lamar Studio Gallery.

The Aubrey Mullings Endowed Scholarship was created by Mary Mullings in memory of her husband whose passion for photography led them all over the world taking thousands of photos. Aubrey’s love of photography and his belief that education betters lives made an endowed scholarship for Pensacola State photography students the perfect way to honor him.
“The scholarship has helped me now in 3 different semesters and I don’t know where I would be without it.”
